About TiMidity MCD

TiMidity plays MIDI and Module (.MOD) files. It does it in software without depending on any hardware MIDI support your soundcard might have. Sound quaility can be much higher because it limited by your CPU's power and memory rather then your soundcard's power and memory.

TiMidity usally comes as a stand alone player. TiMidity MCD is a special version that installs at part of OS/2 Multimedia system so that most applications that played MIDI files through your soundcard before, now can play MIDIs through TiMidity at a higher quality. This includes the Multimedia Workplace Shell objects and the Plug-in pack for Netscape.

Bug: Be aware that there is if you play a MIDI using the Player menu item of a MIDI file or the MIDI app from the multimedia folder it will cause the Workplace Shell to crash. It you play a MIDI by double clicking it directly it will work. After you've played it once, the other methods of playing MIDI files will then work.

Update

Sept 24th, 2004: There has been a further update to the install files for eComstation 2.1 users.

Aug 31th, 2004: Change version in one place in the install files from 2.10.4 to 2.0.4 for eComstation 2.1 users. IBM's documentation suggests 2.10.4 should be allowed, but IBM's code only allocates 5 charactors for the version number.

Dec 13th, 2001: Adding files that should allow installation to work. I wonder how long they've been missing...

Dec 11th, 2001: Another update to TiMidity MCD 2.10.4. Fixes:

• Will now work with TIMIDITYDIR to allow the timidity.cfg to be somewhere other then C:\TIMIDITY\.
• If the audio device is in use it will now return a proper error message.
• Debugging symbols successfully stripped from dll.
• Updated documention on the timidity.cfg file.

Nov 27th, 2001: I've released TiMidity MCD, version 2.10.4. New features:

• Supports more types of module files.
• Higher quality output.
• Supports setting command line options from the timidity.cfg.
• Source code in a reasonable state.
• Shares audio. (Can someone test this with a driver other then the SB Live! driver.)

Oct 11th, 2001: I'm releasing a text-mode version of TiMidity 2.10.4. This isn't a MCD version. It supports more types of module files, playing files from inside zip and other archives, playing files directly off the web, a "ncurses" text mode interface and a much cleaner port.
